Spaced Cardboard series by Shiner – upcycleDZINE
Like I said before, cardboard is a great material for upcycle lighting. Just look at these great designs: Scraplights, Beute lamp. Both use cardboard and both lamps create a warm glow. And that glow is what you’ll get with the design made by Shiner International, Atlanta | Georgia. Shiner designed the ‘Spaced Cardboard series‘, a series of pendants that consists of different shapes like a drum, square or clover. Two uncommon materials, corrugated cardboard and plywood are cut into different shapes, multiplied, spaced out, and then illuminated from within. The result is a stylish and natural look with a warm glow.
According to owner Joe Manus: “It is our goal to transform tons of landfill-destined materials into killer design. By building heirloom pieces out of disposable elements, we refine the future by upcycling the past. Everything from our steel, hardwoods, and cardboard to our lexan and linen is diverted from the incinerator. Our vision has become contagious and led to strategic partnerships with refuse and recycling leaders.” All products are made in Atlanta | Georgia.
