Almost all posts here on upcycleDZINE are about upcycling an object or material. Designers take an object and give it a second life with a totally different function.
But what if a designer created a system, a tool, to easily upcycle objects? To show you what I mean, head on over to a light bulb system by Bulbs Unlimited. A great system that will let you create your own lamp made out of old light bulbs.
Last week I came across another system that gives you the opportunity to upcycle things into a lampshade in an incredible easy way.
DIY system to create your own personal lampshade
The system is called LAMP IT and is designed by Spanish design studio Fragments Bcn, based in Barcelona. When I saw this system for the first time I was immediately hooked. Haven’t seen it in real life, but the photo’s and animated image are so impressive.
The system consists of a super powerful magnet and a metal lamp holder. You can place any object you want between the two to make the lampshade and you can change it as often as you like, without using any tools. The possibilities are endless. You can transform objects like a plate, bowl, bag or even a hat into a lampshade. For every interior, season or mood there’s a solution. Just change the object into something you like and show your personality.

Besides having many possibilities, Lamp It can also change the atmosphere in a room. For instance, it’s very easy to create an intimate atmosphere by using an almost closed object with holes so the light can create playful shadows. A completely closed or open object gives a totally different light.
One thing the designers emphasise is that one should only use LED bulbs because LED bulbs run dramatically cooler than incandescent light bulb. The magnet loses strength when it’s heated up by a incandescent light bulb.
