It has been said many times here on this blog, upcycling is most of the time about fun and being original. And those two aspects, together of course with sustainability, make upcycle design so appealing to more and more people.
If you had the choice between a piece of furniture that is manufactured in large numbers or a one of a kind piece, what would it be? Luckily there is a growing trend that shows people are willing to pay more for a unique or original product. In many cases a one of a kind or made in small numbers and usually handmade. If you want some examples, just look at upcycled radiators and car parts. Today upcycleDZINE wants to add another cool idea that fits into the car parts category.
Front of iconic classic jeep acts as an office desk
And what idea am I talking about? Well, it involves a real classic car, the iconic Willys MB jeep. That well known four-wheel drive military utility vehicle was manufactured during World War II. It’s such a familiar vehicle.
Here comes the big thing, it’s now possible to have that fantastic front of that car in your home or office.
Thanks to upcycle design company Smithers of Stamford, based in Etton | UK. The company was founded by Nick Smith. He took an old Willys jeep and upcycled the front into this unique Jeep Office Desk. Another nostalgic piece of retro furniture.
This handmade designer desk was only made by using original recycled parts. The desk has the following dimensions: height 70 cm, width 135 cm, depth 90 cm, and a weight of 40 kg.
Nick Smith:
“Smithers came to life thanks to my sheer frustration at not being able to source high quality furniture for the home and business.”
This Willy office desk is a stand-alone, one-off piece and a real conversation piece. The desk has two working headlights. One, or actually two, of the nicest details, is that the desk has two opening drawers made from wood reclaimed teak. A very functional, practical, and fun example of upcycled furniture that shows a strong love for interior design that verges on the outrageously funky and quirky! Just like the TRACTOR furniture collection.
