Last week I finally came across a way to upcycle used lightbulbs. A fantastic system which lets you take old bulbs and click them together to form great looking light objects. The company that makes this possible is BULBS UNLIMITED, Hamburg | Germany.
‘BULBS UNLIMITED light objects‘ contains common light bulbs which are connected by Snap Buttons (Press Buttons). “For constucting light objects with different shapes and sizes, we invented a jig. This jig, the ‘Inkubator’ is used to define the precise positions for the Snap Buttons on the bulbs. The Inkubator carries numbered holes in it´s surface through which the bulbs could be marked with a pen (eg. water resistent pen – Edding). Without this jig it is not possible to position the Snap Buttons precise enough to gather symetric light objects. In theory the Inkubator could be used to build uncountable different shapes of Bulbs Unlimited light objects.”
Building your own light bulbs lamp
The first time I saw this light system I was just amazed by the amount of different light objects one can make. It looks so simple and the results are stunning. And if you make an object with the bulbs turned inside out the look is so different. Bulbs Unlimited offers an online shop where you can buy ‘Packs’ [construction sets], ‘light objects’ and several parts to build your light object. The light objects are delivered disassebled, you need to asseble the light objects by clipping the bulbs to each other like Lego Bricks.
And that’s the fun of it, building the object yourself, a DIY project. Maybe you’ll have an idea of combining several different light objects.
