While I was searching for more eco-friendly design I came across ‘Art of Board’. In 2004 Art of Board founder, Rich Moorhead, stumbled on a few broken skateboard decks that belonged to his nephew. While admiring the graphic art destined for landfill, there was a connection between his creative passion and love for skateboarding. So, rather than toss the decks, he put his carpentry skills to the test and made a picture frame. Since then, the Art of Board concept has taken on many forms: magnets, coasters, mirrors and tables.
Today, Art of Board has evolved into a full-service tile and design company. In 2009 Rich, along with partner Bruce Boul, started the first-ever national grassroots skate deck recycling movement – ‘I Ride I Recycle’. ‘I Ride I Recycle’ keeps broken decks out of landfills and into Art of Board’s designs. The movement has recycling locations throughout North America, which include skateshops, parks and action sports manufacturers and retailers.
