Always searching for nice, beautiful and fun upcycle design that shows ingenuity and simplicity. And when it’s made from a great material like discarded cardboard, it will certainly get my attention. And this is exactly what happened with this lovely little lighting design. Just as it did when I saw work from design companies like Graypants, Mhoz and Shiner.
Simple and trendy replica cardboard lamp
I’m talking about an upcycle lighting design called ‘Dora’. It was designed by 16 year old student Indre Butkute, founder of Green Spirit Creations in Newcastle upon Tyne | United Kingdom. She was 17 years old when she started this business.
The design is a two-dimensional replica of a typical table lamp that looks simple and trendy at the same time. This lamp is a fantastic solution to make use of all discarded cardboard from local stores and turn it into a stylish little design.
“The idea for recycling was born out of a desire to create environmentally-friendly products and saw the cardboard the shops were throwing away as an opportunity to not only recycle materials, but minimize transportation waste and material re-processing. You can customize the model by giving it a personal touch according to your taste and temperament. The sides of the lamp can be easily customized either with pencils, markers or acrylic paints.”

Green Spirit Creations started as an experiment to test the possibilities of creating quality products only from 100% recycled materials. “Developing ideas with lively attitude to ecology and paying a lot of attention of how design affects mood and spirits of people. It is not possible to reach perfection, but we do everything to be close to it as much as possible.”
I’m very excited about stumbling upon Green Spirit Creations. So inspiring to see a group of young people designing, creating and thinking with a better environment as their goal.
