Today’s upcycle object is another one from the team that brought you ‘de_escalator‘. It’s a brilliant and simple design by gabarage, based in Vienna | Austria. The furniture collection is formed by the long_ton_sofa and long_ton_chair.
When I saw these designs I was immediately attracted by their solution for using an object that isn’t regarded as attractive and turning it into very useful and interesting furniture. The collection is made from used garbage bins in combination with old canvas covers form trucks.
Upcycled garbage bins you would like to sit in
Covers from trucks are a well known material for upcycling bags. But now we’re not looking at bags, but at furniture. And if you’re looking for a sturdy material than an old canvas cover will certainly do the job.
The nice thing about long_ton furniture is the fact that gabarage has taken the whole upcycling thing a step further. Michael Hensel, one of their chief designers, had this great idea of taking these rugged and tough looking garbage bins and turning them into a chair or sofa. Together with canvas covers they make stunning furniture pieces. The thing I like most about it are the wheels, especially under the sofa accompanied with a breaking system.
