Unit of Measure: Tabletop out of yardsticks by Patina White – upcycleDZINE
I’ve said it before, but as a graphic designer I really like rulers and yardsticks. Lines, numbers, typo, that’s what makes them interesting. And the more they’ve been used, the better.
Here are two more great examples of upcycle design made from yardsticks: the Yardstick Lamp and Yardstick Buffet [DIY]. And today I’m adding another stunning upcycle design to the list. It’s called ‘Unit of Measure‘ and is designed by Patina White, founded by Beth Schaleben.

Bucket-full of yardsticks turned into collage

It all started with a table she had with clean lines and just the right amount of rust on it’s industrial-like steel frame. She also had a bucket of vintage yardsticks. Beth: “I honestly mean a bucket-full! I have collected them for years for various projects. and it was time for something different! Next – the layout. Should i run them all in one direction? Maybe a collage? What shade works off that one? Blonde…dark…honey…highlights of red? I sat for a L O N G time contemplating. After the wheels of invention turned for a while i got out my arsenal of trusty power tools and went to work.”

Patina White was started as a means to being able to share one’s passions with others thru whimsy, wares and inspiration. “My hope is that what I gather and create will bring a smile to one’s face!”
The Unit of Measure certainly puts a smile on my face. It shows that upcycling can be fun, cheap and very rewarding. This upcycle design is a fantastic eye-catcher.
