InSight Light: charming vintage pan lamp by Dead Pan Charm – upcycleDZINE
Today’s featured design is so totally different from what upcycleDZINE has shown so far. It shows a light, a vintage object, typo and feeling. For me, all this combined is a design that shows character and emotion.

Light that lets you think

The upcycle lighting is called ‘InSight Light‘ and is a design by Nikki Byrd, based in Bologna | Italy. I found these unique lamps at Nikki’s Etsy shop, ‘deadpancharm‘. For the design She uses an old discarded ‘dead’ pan.
I’ve searched for the meaning of Dead Pan and found this explanation on urbandictionary.com:
‘A pan that has had so much food burnt in it that it is no longer usable, due to the thick layer of black crap on its surface’.

Luckily that didn’t stop Nikki to upcycle these old and battered, but fantastic kitchen tools. And together with a stimulating quote or phrase this design really comes to life.
On her profile she puts in some ‘Sixth Sense‘ humor: “I only know that I see dead pans. And they talk to me. I don’t always immediately understand what to say back to them. But when I do, an InSight Light is born.”
I think these lamps are great, they give you something the think about, to focus or to remind you. That’s why I like this pay-off by Nikki: “May something about dead pan charm give you exactly what you need, exactly when you need it.”
The InSight Lights are handmade with use of a nail!
