In upcycle design you’ll find that there are some favorite objects/materials to work with. One of those favorite objects is a PET bottle. There are quite some nice PET bottle lighting designs. Most of them use the bottle as is. But one of the designs I found really stands out. It’s a very impressive lamp by Walking Chair Design Studio called ‘P.E.T. Light Tree‘.
An upcycle lighting design that to me looks like a tree with frost on it or a blossom tree. Anyway, I think it has a mesmerizing look.
Walking Chair was founded by the two designers Fidel Peugeot and Karl Emilio Pircher in 2003 and within a short time has established itself as an international trademark and a buzzing lab for unconventional design ideas.
An upcycle lighting tree with shiny PET bottles
The P.E.T. Light Tree was initially developed for the PET Light Show at DMY Design Festival, Berlin 2008. It consists of 6 lights (PET LIGHT 33) with 198 handshaped bottles. Handshaping the bottles means that they get an uneven dented/wrinkled shape by crushing them with your hands. The structure is made from steel with a white powdercoating finishing. The solid steel base guarantees absolute stability. All I can say is that I find it’s such a stunning upcycle lighting design.
