This week, 9th-14th of April, Milan will host the Salone Internazionale del Mobile [since 1961] at Milan Fair Rho Pero. The Salone del Mobile is the global benchmark for the Home Furnishing Sector. One of the largest fairgrounds world-wide with 8 large pavilions for indoor exhibitions and 60,000 m² for outdoor exhibitions! Last year when I went there for the first time I couldn’t believe my eyes. When you take the subway in the morning to the Salone it’s like going to a soccer match or a Coldplay concert. So big and so many people. And so much to see.
The Salone isn’t the only place in Milan to see design. In Milan there’s the Tortona Design Week. Tortona Design Week is a comprehensive network of outside-the-box events, in the via Savona-via Tortona area. It’s populated by an international audience of design professionals and design enthusiasts, who are always looking for the newest trend. If you’re really looking for a special tread and for unique and fresh design, this is the place one should certainly visit.
And then there’s, like last year, the Dutch brand Heineken. They have a collaborative space, The Magazzini. Where in a unique partnership with innovative design partners, Heineken provides emerging designers a platform for exposure in Milan’s Tortona. According to Heineken: “Visitors to The Magazzini can expect to experience a showcase of design talent and educational workshops by day and a design-led party space at night.” Well, looking forward.
So this week I’m very fortunate to be able to visit Milan again. Hope to find stunning design with a focus on eco-friendly and upcycle design that I can show here at upcycleDZINE. Arrivederci!
