Staying on the subject of bicycles, see the CARMA project, it seems appropriate to show a design made out of bicycle tubes. Anyone who thought bicycle tubes were boring should think again. If you’re a regular visitor of this blog you may have noticed that these tubes are one of the least boring items used for upcycle design. Not convinced? Take a look at some examples shown earlier on upcycleDZINE: Upcycled tires + tubes, Bicycle Tube Lamp.
So here’s another tube design, this time a shelf system, appropriately called ‘Elastic Shelf‘ by SystemDesignStudio from Barcelona.

This shelf system for home or office is made by used bicycle tires, tensed between two used furniture legs. “This creates an interesting elastic structure that allows to keep books as well as several objects, that stays put by the elastic pressure of the tires.” And one of the great things about this design is that you can still see the valves, which gives the design its authenticity.
SystemDesignStudio is a multidisciplinary team who seeks to understand the design as an integral system, from one extended point of view. Creating solutions in all the areas of the design, from the architecture up to the daily objects. All this under sustainable concepts, the use of renewable energy, green materials, reused and recovered objects and the integration of new technologies.
