Upcycle design is great because most of time it’s functional, has a fun factor and a history. A few days ago I came across a few designs that caught my attention because of that history. Besides having a function as a lamp, they’re very fun and interesting to see and they remind us of its vintage origin.
Just take a look at the ‘Sauce Pan Lamp‘, a great example of upcycle design. This design is a intriguing object by itself without having the light switched on. But when the lightbulb is shining it creates a whole new look. The lamp is designed by Dog Tag Designs in New York, established by Tyagi Schwartz: “Dog Tag Designs specializes in repurposing and upcycling objects into useful and artistic furnishings. Everything has a history and a story to tell. I needed a way to give provenance to my creations and dog tags were the perfect answer to forever mark my work. Dog Tag Designs became a great conduit for my creative energy and a way for me to see objects beyond their intended use. Each piece is dog tagged noting the location it was discovered, date it was transformed, and title.”
Take a look at the other designs posted just below. I just remembered that there’s an old phone lying around upstairs somewhere. Wonder what one could do with it?!
