It’s rare to meet people who have not seen – or at least heard about – Game of Thrones. There are countless references to the show all over the internet. A previous post ‘Urban Warrior’s Throne’ for instance, featured an upcycling project by Spring and Gears which took inspiration from the Iron Throne.

But that’s just one of the many upcycled items designed with GoT elements. Today, let’s look at other DIY projects based on the hit TV series.

Paper Mache Baby Dragons
Dan Reeder of Paper Mache Blog, is a master paper mache artist and Game of Thrones fan. He shared his process of creating a baby dragon and a dragon egg from paper mache. Aside from paper, other materials used were masking tape, balloons and paint.

Game of Thrones Wall Décor
You don’t need to throw away old magazines because you can use them for wall décor. Zi of Youtube channel Artzi Crafts made fantastic-looking Game of Thrones décor with magazine rolls. Using glue and painting techniques, Zi made them look like bamboo from afar which is a nice, inexpensive touch.

Game of Thrones Scrabble Tile Coasters
With the help of glue and thin cork, Nicole Tries DIY showed how to repurpose Scrabble tiles into a coaster. She made it Game of Thrones-themed by spelling out the names of the show’s characters.

Baratheon Crown
The crafting artist Yoonie made a replica of Joffrey Baratheon’s crown using chipboard and a circular frame. The step-by-step process and design template were shared on Yoonie at Home. To create the antique look, brown poster colour served as the base tone of the piece which was dry brushed with gold afterwards.

Season 7 of Game of Thrones has recently concluded, and fans are currently dealing with the agony of waiting for the next season. Since the 8th and final season for the show is not on until late 2018 or early 2019, getting into DIY projects and other creations inspired by the show is a way for many to satiate their hunger for a GoT-fix.

This is not only on the side of end users, as even home product retailers and entertainment companies are aware of – and have joined – the trend as well. IKEA, for example, released instructions on how to make your own cape in response to public demand after people found out Jon Snow’s cape is actually an IKEA rug. As for visual and interactive creations, the mobile recreation platform Slingo which features the Game of Thrones 15 Lines mobile slot is just one of the many gaming communities that deliver engaging games for both die-hard GoT fans and casual players. Naturally, the owners and creators of GoT have rolled out all sorts of licensed merchandise as well, including clothing and toys.

Nonetheless, you don’t need to spend money on new GoT-inspired items because you can create your own through upcycling. For more wonderful projects you can do at home, check out other posts here on upcycleDZINE in the DIY section.
