Lighting is a very important aspect in any interior. It can make or break a room. On HGTV’s website is an interesting post called 3 Basic Types of Lighting. These types are ambient, accent and task lighting. Every type has it’s own use, function and character. And character is an aspect I like most. It determines the way you experience a room.
And upcycling can give a lamp design so much more character because of the upcycled object and the story/history it has to tell.
Fire hose nozzle gets an exciting new appearance
And some objects or materials have a bigger story to tell than others. And some objects have a more exciting appearance. One group of items with a very interesting story and/or appearance is that of objects used by firefighters. Just look at the bags collection by Elvis & Kresse or Rescue Threads and Coupling Wall Hanging by Oxgut Hose Co.
So what shouldn’t be missing is a Fire Hose Nozzle. The upcycle design in this post is showing this fantastic and striking object being turned into a stunning desk lamp. This lighting piece is created by a Dutch company called Creative Open, founded by Tessa Camman and based in Tilburg | Netherlands.
Creative Open took this object used by firefighters and turned it into a industrial style desk lamp with a special lampshade that consists of two layers. The combination of a black outside layer and a white one on the inside gives a specific light effect. The Fire Hose Nozzle desk lamp comes with a luxury big light source (led lamp with filament look). The measurements are 30 cm in diameter and a height of 60 cm.
Tessa is a very creative person with a wide range of skills, from selling cars to even styling of models. But always with one objective: making people and materials beautiful.
Beauty isn’t a thing that’s only restricted to the outside, but also from within. Because of her background in the social sector, she thinks it’s important to contribute to society.
Tessa Camman:
“Creative Open supports the principle: Corporate Social Responsibility. By working with different authorities we provide labor-related daytime activities for people who for some reason have a certain distance to the regular labor market. We sell the products and develop new ideas together.”

Although Tessa’s greatest passion is to create reclaimed tree trunk tables, she certainly showed passion for upcycling in this Fire Hose Nozzle desk lamp.
