BUCATINI: heating pipe wall hanger by Izmade – upcycleDZINE
Frequent visitors and readers of upcycleDZINE know by now that it’s always a treat for me to find upcycle design that uses a material or object that hasn’t been featured on this blog. And that’s why I’m so excited about today’s post. The design you’re seeing here may be too modern for some people, but it’s very original and fun. And most important of all it shows how an otherwise discarded object gets a very functional and new life.

Intertwined wall hanger

Presenting you Bucatini by Italian design company Izmade. It’s a wall hanger born from a gift: a construction company in Turin donated ground heating coils to them.

For this project they started off by studying the shape and purpose of this material all the way to the finished product. The base is made from the wood left over by some of Izmade’s partner carpentries.
The name of the design is derived from Bucatini [aka Perciatelli], according to Wikipedia, a thick spaghetti-like pasta with a hole running through the center. The name comes from Italian: buco, meaning ‘hole’, while bucato or its Neapolitan variant perciato means ‘pierced’.

This piece of upcycle design is very playful with its curves and lines together with a nice contrast between plastic and wood. Everything is intertwined in this wall hanger. “The hooks are knotted like tree roots, but slender as a flower’s stem. And red, of course, like ‘bucatini all’amatriciana‘.” All in all a pleasant eye-catcher.

Izmade:

Products are the result of a research on the use of sustainable and recycled materials. All the products are manufactured through craftsmanship and come from a design pattern which embodies cultural references, knowledge and memories. They rely on the balance of shapes, colors, ease of transport and assembly. They possess peculiar features and are customizable. We also carefully consider the future disposal of the object, ensuring that our final products can be easily disassembled so that individual parts can be recycled separately.
