Surfing the web I sometimes stumble upon upcycle design that catches my attention because of it’s simplicity. And by that I mean the form and the upcycled object. These upcycle design pieces always make me smile when I realize what they are really made of. Some objects just seem to be made for upcycling and especially for upcycle lighting.
Trap turned into a one-of-a-kind lamp
An upcycle design lighting piece that shows that simplicity is the Minnow Trap Chandelier by Loftyideas4u, an Etsy shop founded by designer Rodney Hicks.
For those of you who are not familiar with the object, according to WikipediA: “Minnow trap is a cylindrical device with a funnel to trap fish. A wire trap is made of two half-cylinders with concave cones which end in small openings at either end. These two halves are connected together after some sort of bait to entice the minnows has been placed inside. The wire trap is connected to a length of line which is fastened to something on the bank or a float. Minnows are attracted inside the trap by the bait, swimming into the small opening at either end, after they have found their way in it is very difficult for them to escape. This technique is one that requires more time, but less attention.”
Well, Rodney Hicks was creative enough to see upcycle potential in this fishing device and turned it into an industrial vintage and unique chandelier/table lamp. The vintage galvanized metal torpedo craw-fish and minnow trap light measures 16.5″/42 cm. in height and has a 8.5″/21,5 cm. diameter.
“Big box items are often generic enough to appeal to the mass markets, but owning a Loftyideas4u lamp is a way to incorporate a ‘One of a Kind’ piece of history into a contemporary lifestyle.”
