Vintage Carpenter's Plane Lamp by Studio ORYX – upcycleDZINE
One of the great and attractive aspects of upcycle design is giving new life to an almost forgotten vintage object. There are so many appliances, instruments and tools that slowly disappear and end up in an attic, thrift shop or in a landfill. Too bad of course, because these objects often tell a beautiful or interesting story. And many tools show how craftsmen used to make a particular product.
So whenever I see upcycle design using an old tool, I’m immediately interested.

Wooden plane with unique twist

Please have a look at this unique ‘Carpenter’s Plane Lamp‘ by Studio ORYX. A very interesting and fine looking wall mounted lamp that has, in my opinion, some resemblance with a fishing rod.

The design is created out of a vintage wooden Carpenter’s plane, tripod rod, white enamel bowl and edison light bulb. The lamp is adjustable in length by the tripod’s extension rod allowing the lamp to be extended up to 1.7 meters.

Studio ORYX was established in 2009, Tel Aviv | Israel, by Re’em Eyal with aesthetics as main guideline. Every product is hand crafted, and receives a unique twist to its original use.
Re’em Eyal:

“I love seeing the story of the product, and what it went through the passage of time, whether it’s a small dent, or a spot of rust.”

The studio has a sort of trademark for using vintage wooden objects. Just look at a previous featured design, Vintage Roller Skates lamp, on upcycleDZINE. And this time again, just like in other designs by Re’em Eyal, it shows a beautiful ode to the past.
