Mirror made out of Airbus a320 part by Redesign – upcycleDZINE
After writing a lot of posts on upcycleDZINE I noticed quite a few different objects and materials being used by upcycle designers. And looking at these objects and materials you can divide them into some categories. Like design made out of bicycle parts or pallet wood or for instance plastic containers. And another category seems to be aircraft parts.

A unique mirror on the wall

Parts of aircrafts have been upcycled into some amazing design pieces. For those of you who missed it, have a look at upcycle design by MotoArt, Bordbar, AERO-1946 or Design Academy Eindhoven. All fantastic examples of what can be done with old airplanes gathering dust.

Some time ago I stumbled upon a Dutch designer who upcycles aircraft parts and other vintage industrial products. The designer is Johan Boer, founder of Redesign. On his Facebook page he describes himself as an upcycle artist. To him upcycling is “Advanced crafts, a fun hobby creating something out of nothing”. To me upcycle design fits that description perfectly, a happy mirror.

And what does he mean by ‘nothing’? Well, for instance an old used starter motor from an Airbus a320. Johan took that piece of metal and upcycled it into an absolutely unique ‘Mirror‘. He worked on that old aircraft part till he got cramps in his fingers. But the end result was worth it. I don’t know about you but to me this mirror looks a bit like a smiley/face.
