Buenos Aires: branch furniture by La Pamplemoussa – upcycleDZINE
Looking at upcycle design you will see that most of the designs are made by using old or/and discarded objects or materials. But there are also some designers that look at nature to see what it has to offer. And an object that has lots of possibilities is a branch. It comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Two fantastic examples of upcycled branches have been featured on upcycleDZINE. One is a table called A Day at the River by Marcantonio Raimondi Malerba and another is a desk lamp called Stripped lamp by Studio Floris Wubben.

A branch gives night stand amazing shape

Today I’m happy to show you another upcycle design that uses branches. It’s an incredible combination of furniture and lighting. The design is called ‘Buenos Aires‘ by La Pamplemoussa, based in New York | United States. Designer and architect Juliana Marroquín worked for this project with Sofia Flores, at that time both students living in São Paulo | Brazil.

They were asked to do a multi functional piece of furniture: “We needed to do a cheap project with what we had, to do something that we could use. We asked ourselves how to do it in a way that goes accordingly with our current way of living in Sao Paulo, the most expensive city in Latin America. Starting from there, we needed to do a cheap project with what we had, to do something that we could use. We decided to go to our neighborhood park in Higienopolis, Parque Buenos Aires and look for a good old piece of natural and un-industrialized piece of wood. We found these beautiful branches at the park’s garbage and we decided to restore them. We then proceed to assemble the vertical night stand.”

The finished object is unique and quite impressive measuring 1,70m in height and needs about one meter round depending on the side. They included a 6 meter cord cable with silicone socket and a filament light bulb. The small tabletop has an opening for a small flower pot and a cutout to hold the cables of a laptop or phone.
I think this night stand is a real eye-catcher in any interior. As long as you have enough space.
