On this Friday, the last post of the week, I’m showing you an upcycle design lamp. There have been many here on upcycleDZINE, but never with use of this material. I looks like glass, but it’s actually acrylic. It almost has the same transparency as glass. Especially at the edges of the different parts you notice that it’s different from glass. And, have you already figured out what these ellipse pieces originate from? At first I didn’t, but then I read what they were and I was amazed.
Layering acrylic gives an amazing effect
Well let me tell you what this featured design is. It’s a pendant lamp called ‘HALO‘ and is designed by Beau Easley [Fb].
“HALO is an upcycled design created from the offcuts of acrylic ellipse guides — accumulated over a two year span from Industrial Design students. The pieces were cleaned, sanded around the edges, and assembled in a one day workshop.”
It’s nothing less than incredible that he, and maybe the other students, thought of using these offcuts. Like design in general, and more specific upcycle design, one has to see what is possible with an already existing object or material. Beau: “I approach design as an opportunity to create beautiful experience solutions.”

Once again, incredible what can be done with the right material and objects and ‘some’ ingenuity. The layering in combination with transparency lets HALO shine. To see this upcycle design pendant floating in an interior must be quite an experience.
