Redial created this wonderful minimalist upcycle design side table called DOCKYARD out of waste from a construction site – upcycleDZINE
This week on upcycleDZINE ends with a piece of upcycle design furniture. A design that’s made out of waste from a construction site. Now if I think of a construction site, and I’ve worked at one for 6 months, I remember all sorts of rough materials being thrown away. But I never thought that some of these materials could be used for making stylish furniture.

Side table shows very nice contrast

Italian design company Redolab, based in Venice | Italy, came up with the idea of using boards for scaffolding and reinforcing bars [rebar]. Two very basic and honest materials that were used to create a very minimalist and pure side table called Dockyard. A design with simple and clear lines in contrast to the strength of the materials used. Dockyard has a story to tell.

“The passion for DIY, for handicrafts, for things done by hand and the awareness that every choice has an impact on the environment has created Redolab. We interact with local companies and with those who already deal with collection and disposal of waste to create a virtuous chain and take the ‘philosophy’ of upcycling into a company that cares about the environment and the enhancement of our territory.”

Redolab: “For us simple objects and every kind of waste material are resources to which a new life is given by the wise hands of the artisan’s creativity.”
I don’t know if you looked at the photo’s closely but than you would have noticed a very nice little detail. Namely the two small knobs on the drawers also made out of rebar. That’s one of the things that really makes Dockyard beautiful upcycle design.
