Some upcycle design pieces are beautiful objects in itself. But there’s also design that besides being great, tells a story by how it looks. The design is created in a way that it resembles something else or it tells something about its function. And today’s featured design fits in the last group because the design object shows it’s initial function of the main object used for upcycling.

Sprinkle light with use of a watering can

The design you are seeing is called ‘Watering Can‘ and is created by German industrial designer André Stache, based in Berlin | Germany. Watering Can shows an used can that supplied plants with water. As you can see the sprinkling is suggested by four arms with lights sticking out of the beak of the metal watering can. Because the four arms are different in length the lamps spread light over a larger area.
André is also the founder of design agency Van Houtte & Stach Design. Watering Can was created during a project called ‘Änderungen Aller Art‘ [2013] in Mönchengladbach.

The project lasted four weeks and during that period five artists and designers were invited to dedicate themselves to function, design and history of things. They had to use their inspiration to explore ways to redefine how we use things. Every citizen of Mönchengladbach was invited to donate objects and belongings of all kinds.
The exciting aspect of this all was that the result of a transformation was impossible to predict.

Well if you look at Watering Can one can say that the project was quite successful and I think many interesting and sometimes amazing designs and art pieces must have been created.
