It’s pallet-time. Yes, again. Pallet wood is still very popular among upcycle designers and people who like upcycle design. Like I said last time, there’re so many great upcycle designs made out of pallet wood. So I didn’t hesitate to show a post with yet another pallet wood design. This upcycle design piece was on the fantastic website 1001pallets.com. Just like the last post about upcycled pallet wood: DIY: Pallet Wood Clock by Becky Marshall.
Pallet wood gives so much character
The upcycle design table you see here is much more than just one table. When I saw this design I immediately liked it and I noticed that it wasn’t an ordinary table. The design is called 2BY1 and is made out of used pallet wood and offers a wide variety of functions.
The name of this upcycle design table reveals that there’s more to it than meets the eye. It’s about design and versatility, a coffee table and side table, console and desktop. The table has a black side and a red side to match the decor or mood. It can be used indoor or outdoor. And last but not least, it’s about an old and new function, upcycling! In two movements it changes from a low table to a high table. The table is designed for small spaces where space saving is a must.
The designer of this multifunctional table is Denis Maria, founder of La cabane au fond du jardin. He’s a French designer with years of experience in restoration, creation of furniture and wooden games. So in a way wood is like his daily breath to him.

2BY1 is made entirely from recycled wooden pallets, its design is inspired by the MK1 table, designed by DUFFY London. I think the MK1 table is a great design, but I must admit that I’m in favor of 2BY1. For me it has so much more character and history. And the fact that it’s made by upcycling old wood is of course the icing on the cake.
